ICC Confirmation Preparation

The goal of our program is to help prepare candidates to be receptive and responsive to the graces and challenges of the Sacrament of Confirmation. During the two year preparation cycle candidates will learn that Confirmation, as one of the three Sacraments of Initiation, will deepen their relationship with Christ and His Church. Students become more aware of the presence and action of the Spirit and His gifts within them, thereby empowering them to live as Jesus did.  They discover ways to fulfill the specific responsibilities that are theirs as Catholics.

Students are expected to perform eight hours of service per year.  Please complete the Service hours form form for each act of service.
  • Choosing a Confirmation name:  It is preferable that the baptismal name be retained for Confirmation to reinforce the connection between the sacraments.  If a new name is selected, it it to be a Christian name. Students will be given directions to complete a Confirmation Name Project.
  • Choosing a sponsor: Sponsors are "spiritual parents who instruct spiritual children in Christian living." (St. John Chrysostom) A Sponsor should be a fully initiated and practicing Catholic, at least sixteen years of age, not bound by any canonical penalty, in a valid marriage if married, and not the father or mother of the candidate.
    • If the sponsor is an ICC parishioner, you need only to make us aware of the choice at the meeting on Septmber 22nd .
    • Sponors outside of ICC should contact their home parishes for a certificate.

"Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit." Acts 8:14-17
