WELCOME TO CONFIRMATION PREPARATION!

The Celebration of Confirmation for eighth grade students will be

August  2022

Welcome to Immaculate Conceptions 2022/2023 Confirmation Preparation.  The Confirmation process is being changed this year.  Confirmation will be offered in 8th grade but is open to all parish members in 8th grade through 11th grade.  Confirmation candidates participate in confirmation sessions prior to their reception of the sacrament.  The Bishop confers the sacrament of Confirmation in the spring at the Cathedral in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Diocese requires that children have 2 years of religious education preparation to receive Confirmation.  Therefore, children need to attend 7th and 8th grade PSR(Edge) on Wednesdays to make Confirmation in the 8th grade.

We are very excited to be using the Chosen: Your Journey Toward Confirmation Program.  The goal of the program is to offer your child a powerful, life changing experience as he or she prepares to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

It is our hope that Chosen will offer your child a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Faith.  The program has been carefully designed to address and answer candidates’ fundamental questions about life, and to challenge him or her to embrace a life of faith.

Confirmation preparation sessions will begin in September with our Parent/Candidate meeting on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 10:30 am.

All Confirmation classes will meet on Sunday mornings in the Parish Center once a month from 10:00 am-11:15 am then going to Mass at 11:30am as a class.

Requirements for Confirmation Preparation:

  • Mass attendance on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation

  • Attendance at regularly scheduled EDGE+ Wednesday PSR classes

    • Confirmation Mass Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 2 pm at St John Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio

  • Parish and community service, "Works of Mercy"

    • An important component of preparation for Confirmation is Christian service. This is meant to help the candidate reach beyond themselves, and to respond to the challenge of loving our neighbor as Jesus loves us.

    • Please complete three Works of Mercy totaling 8 hours and submit these works *here*.

  • Choosing a Confirmation name:  It is preferable that the baptismal name be retained for Confirmation to reinforce the connection between the sacraments.  If a new name is selected, it is to be a Christian name. Students will be given directions on how to complete a Confirmation Saint Project.

    • The Name form due 12/11/2022

    • The Saint Project due 3/12/2023

  • Choosing a sponsor: Sponsors are "spiritual parents who instruct spiritual children in Christian living." (St. John Chrysostom) A Sponsor should be a fully initiated and practicing Catholic, at least sixteen years of age, not bound by any canonical penalty, in a valid marriage if married, and not the father or mother of the candidate.

    • If the sponsor is an ICC parishioner, you need to fill out a Sponsor form on or before 12/11/2022. (Download Confirmation Sponsor form *here*.)

    • Sponsors outside of ICC should contact their home parishes for a certificate, and turn it in the PSR office on or before 12/11/2022.

Thank you for allowing us to come along on your teens journey to Confirmation!

Registration is available online at www.iccmadison.com or call the office at 440-428-5164.

Thank you and be assured of my prayers,

Rev Fr. Donnelly

"Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit." Acts 8:14-17
